The THYSS family's roots are in Limgburg near Masstricht in southern Nederland.They emigrated at the end of16th century because of religion war, and, as they were protestant, they found refuge in Mulhouse, in what was at that time a free city, where they remained from 1600 to the French-German war of 1870.
Some of them stayed in France, near Paris, and some of them emigrated first to Russia (Moscow) and after to Australia (Mareeba), North Queensland.420
