Notes for Max CASSIRER
Henry Cassirer's comment in his new book "One hundred years of struggle for a Humanistic World"281

"Grandfather Max devoted his" leisures "to the municipal businesses of Berlin, and his richness to help his daughter and his son-in-law, Edith and Paul Geheeb, to create the" Odenwaldschule "which would become the cocoon of a humanistic education. A member of the Democratic Party, he was a notable city council man in Berlin Charlottenburg... "282

In 1911, the Duck Fountain endowed by Max Cassirer in Hardenbergstrasse in Charlottenburg was the first of the sculptur, August Gaul's works to be erected in the Berlin city area. He also made a Cygnet Fountain for Max Cassirer (today at Kurfürstendamm/corner of Leibnizstr. in Berlin). Posthumously, the gravestones Gaul had made for Max and Alfred Cassirer were erected in the cemetery in Heerstrasse, Berlin (although Max Cassirer's grave has been reutilised since Max died in London).203
